I’m decidedly a beach over lake type of person. There is nothing like salty water in my hair and the waves. That being said, if it’s Summer, and Im near a body of water where I can swim or get on a boat, I’m a happy happy girl. This was our family trip with my husband’s side of the family and we all had the best time. We kayaked and swam to our heart’s content. We were on a really quiet lake, which made the whole week so peaceful and relaxing. Even though I was on doxycycline and got weird sunburns throughout the week despite my best efforts to cover up. I’m just not a “sit in the shade” kind of girl so I paid the price.
Here’s the outfits I wore and what I was doing while wearing it.
P.s.: I’ll link everything I can in one big shopable link for you.
P.p.s.: Keep reading for a FREE training on how to pack a suitcase that I’ve never shared outside of my clients before.
I am notorious for getting chilled by the car AC on road trips, so I almost always had to travel in something that covers my legs. This cotton dress was perfect for it. Paired it with an open weave sweater for that Summer vibe and black leather flip flops.
We did some hiking the Smokey Mountains on this day, nothing strenuous so my sandals were great for it. I’ve also been loving this bag instead of my Lululemon belt bag for hands free carrying.
For a full day of the lake, I packed my books and art supplies in this quilted bag I hand painted. I tried my best to cover up from the sun but this was the day I got sunburned for the first time in my life. Lol. Medicine is a powerful thing.
I love a long cotton skirt after a full day in the water. Maybe it’s because growing up after a full day at the beach, I always changed into an easy Summer dress. I loved adding the vintage polo here for a touch of prep while keeping it quirky with the pattern mixing.
This was a full boat day, so I knew I needed maximum shade ( my legs were fine). Denim on denim is an underrated lake look in my opinion.

At this point I learned my lesson and left early in the morning to kayak everyday. I should have brought a rash guard, but since I never burn, I don’t even own one. Enter my trusty vintage Guess tee.
Another day, another kayaking look.
As you can see, I’m a big believer in not packing “resort wear” to water vacations. I don’t know if it’s the island girl in me, but I like to wear regular clothes that can easily be worn as a cover-up. To me, a beach or pool cover-up is really only appropriate if you’re on a cruise or in a resort. All the other times, a cotton button up or a linen dress do just fine.
Easy peasy dinner look, again, protecting myself from the AC. It takes me an hour to blow dry my hair so when I’m on vacation, I rock the wet hair look for dinner most nights lol.
I have a couple more looks but this is getting so long, so I’ll end it on this note: packing for vacation DOES not require you to go out shopping for a whole new wardrobe. The only think I bought was the straw hat because of my being on antibiotics. Everything else was just about shopping my closet, finding a cohesive color palette and using pieces in a many different ways. Here’s a post I wrote about occasion shopping that applies to vacation as well. And here’s a training on how to pack a suitcase that I’ve never shared with anyone else outside my style clients.
Have a great week,
xx Priscila
I love your style… And I think you have fully convinced me to invest in the straw bucket hat… At that price point it’s a no-brainer!!
