I’m a day late again. Not that you’re noticed but my goal is to write on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with a few extra style guides for paid subscribers ( thank you, you’re a dream!). I have a Spring Guide in the works, so stay tuned. But back to why I’m late. The kids have been on the longest Spring break ever. And as much as I’d like to think that life gets easier with older kids, life certainly gets busier.
However, I know you’re here for a dose of style, not a laundry list of excuses. I’ve been making a lot of statement pieces for my shop, which has got me thinking about statement pieces.
Ever feel like you’re wearing something, but it just doesn’t “wow” you? You know, that outfit that looks fine but doesn’t feel you. What’s missing? The answer is simple: a statement piece.
A statement piece is the key that unlocks your outfit’s potential. It’s that bold necklace that makes your outfit stand out, the shoes that catch everyone’s attention, or the jacket that just gives you all the right vibes. It’s that piece that makes you feel like you own the day, like you’re stepping into your full self.
When I help people go through their closets, I often hear them say they feel stuck. They have all the basics—jeans, tees, jackets—but their closet feels flat. What’s missing? The pieces that add a little spice. Think of it like making soup. You can make a basic chicken soup, but to take it to the next level, you need the right spices. A little salt, pepper, maybe some herbs—those spices are what bring out the flavor and take the soup from fine to fantastic.
Your closet is the same way. Your basics—those simple, well-fitting pieces—are the foundation. But it’s the statement pieces that bring your wardrobe to life. They add personality, flair, and energy to an outfit that might otherwise be boring. Without them, your closet can feel like a factory-made set of clothes—everything’s fine, but nothing feels special.
Personally, my favorite way to add personality to my outfits is by mixing in a few key statement pieces. I love combining vintage finds, unique artisan pieces, and items I pick up while traveling. These pieces tell a story, and they help me feel like my outfits are truly mine—not just something I pulled off a shelf.
That’s actually why I’ve been designing upcycled statement pieces. I’ve noticed a sea of blandness in people’s closets, with so many basic pieces that just don’t feel personal or exciting. I wanted to create something different—pieces that stand out, that tell a story, and that allow you to add personality to your wardrobe. When I design, I think about how to give each piece a unique twist, so you can bring something truly special into your closet. It’s my way of helping you add that little bit of spice that transforms a good outfit into something unforgettable.
So, next time you’re getting dressed, think about what piece you can add to your look that makes it you. Because a good statement piece doesn’t just change your outfit—it can change your whole vibe.
See you Thursday (but don’t hold your breath),
xx Priscila
